{The Nest Reviews} Nutri-Grain is back on our plate

Sometimes it is the old faithfuls that come good again and that is what happened this week in our household.

The last couple of weeks have been epic. I have been running around chasing the three little birdies, attempting to find time to study and sit two law exams and on top of that balancing the husband’s business’ books. So to say I needed some help was a ridiculous understatement.

Breakfast in our house usually consists of yoghurt, muesli and fruit or maybe a smear of honey on toast.

This week the fantastic people at Kellogg’s helped us rediscover our old friend Nutri-Grain. nutri grain

It was so simple tossing some of the delicious little parcels into a bowl and pouring over some cold milk. The kid bird had never tried Nutri-Grain before (Crazy, I know!) but now it is definitely her favourite.

The best bit is that I can give Nutri-Grain to her knowing that it now comes with a 4 Health Star rating and is packed full of corn, oats and wheat.

Everyone knows though, that the best bit is that deliciously satisfying crunch!nutir grain

So why not grab a packet of the new and improved Nutri-Grain for your family today.

{The Nest Can Cook} Stuff my kids ate: Chicken Patties

We had another success in the Nest this week, let me introduce you to the chicken vegie and fetta patties.

They are little balls of happiness and hidden vegies!

I found that the little birdies hoed into them because they are fun to make, fun to roll and fun to eat.

This is the recipe we used (but it is heavily opened to interpretation and feel free to use whatever is in the depths of your fridge’s vegie section)chicken patties copy

INGREDIENTS:

  • 700g chicken mince
  • One egg
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 carrots (grated)
  • 2 green onion, chopped finely
  • Small can of corn
  • Handful of flat-leaf parsley
  • 150g fetta

STEPS:

1. Combine chicken, egg, breadcrumbs, carrots, green onions, corn and fetta in a large bowl.

2. Roll into patties (makes about 16 we found)

3. Heat a large frypan with oil and cook until browned (and cooked through)

We served with salad.

Takes about 30 minutes to make this.

Enjoy Nesters!

{The Nest Cooks} Handmade Finger Food

New theory to feeding the kid.

Step 1: Throw out food that took 45 minutes to prepare, hand toddler piece of plastic cheese.

Step 2: There is no step two.

In reality, as much as I would LOVE to do that ALL the time, that little part of my brain that has knowledge of nutrition means that I am guilted into constantly pursuing the long road to a good, balanced diet.

When you are at your wits end look no further than the very clever team at One Handed Cooksfinger food one handed cook

I find them my saviour when it comes to toddler-bird feeding ideas.

Our go-to is their Homemade Finger Food Ideas list. Trust me when I say you should bookmark this and rely on it often!

Our family’s favourites are the Roast Vegetable Tartlets and Popcorn Chicken. YUM!

{Raising Little People} Green Fries for your little birdies

Getting the little birdies to eat green beans is not the easiest thing. Especially if you make an epic fail and let it slip that they are good for them..

greenbeans

So, instead of just cooking them the old-fashioned-steaming-way, why not try something just a little bit different?

The fantastic team at Super Healthy Kids have added a little spin on the boring old beans. You can’t tell me that “Green Fries’ doesn’t sound just a little more appetising?

Head here to find the recipe -> Green Fries
