One of the best little businesses I have discovered this year is Sister Skincare.

Sister Skincare is owned and operated by Tiarna Elliott and Amy Gullifer and was launched in 2019. The idea for the business was developed over 3 years whilst Tiarna was completing her beauty apprenticeship. The whole process took almost 2 years before they were ready to launch. A lot of researching, contacting manufacturers, trialling and sampling was involved before they finally narrowed it down to the 8 products they currently have available. 

The best thing about Sister Skincare is that the ingredients are natural and organic, but highly active. Tiarna says she was determined to find ingredients that would help the skin without the need for chemicals. Their products contain no parabens, SLS, nothing artificial or synthetic. They’re vegan and cruelty free. 

Sister Skincare was designed for Tiarna’s sister, Jess, who has struggled with cystic acne and extremely sensitive skin for the last 4 years. At the time, the products were made solely for her sister and Tiarna would never have imagined producing her own line of skincare but after 6 months of using the products, and seeing her sister’s skin flawless, she knew she wanted others to experience the goodness of raw active ingredients, instead of using harsh chemicals. So, that’s when Sister Skincare was born.

One of the best things about the Christmas Prizeapolooza is the great little businesses that get on board that I wouldn’t have known about without this showcase. One of those great little businesses is Elk & Tom

Elk & Tom is owned and operated by Elizabeth Klavins who is a fibre artist. Elk & Tom offers a range of Artisan jewellery and home wares created through hand embroidery and needle felting/wet felting.

Elizabeth says Elk & Tom was created a few years ago when her son was born. She says she wanted to pursue her creative side while on leave. She says she has always been creative, so to her creating her own little business was the natural next step.

Over the years you may have seen Elk & Tom at places like the Bathurst Artisan Markets or online through her social media pages. Recently she jumped on board with the beautiful store in Bathurst “Bespoke & Co.”. Elk & Tom is also part of “The Journey person” which is a collective of artisans from the Central West, who get together a few times a year, selling their handmade items at Pop ups held at The Corner Store Gallery in Orange. Elk & Tom will very soon have their own online store which is exciting for 2020!

The thing that sets Elk & Tom apart from other artists is that a lot of her work is inspired by beautiful Australian Flora and Fauna. It’s unique and quite popular with people.

Elk & Tom is a fantastic idea for gifts for those who are looking to send a little bit of our flora/fauna overseas to loved ones.

This is one of my absolute favourite businesses in this year’s giveaway, in fact, I am smelling one of her incredible candles as I type this!

Firefly Earth is owned and operated by the gorgeous Trudey Bailey and offers pure soy triple scented candles.

Firefly was born 10 years ago, when Trudey’s baby was 11 months old and after a trip to Canada to visit family, Trudey noticed just how many homes she visited had candles burning. The candle culture was massive in the northern hemisphere, and she says she was all in after that trip.

Trudey says the problem she faced back in Australia was that if she wanted a triple scented candle that packed a fragrance punch, she could only find them in paraffin. Australia had various ranges of soy candles but the fragrance seemed to be a little light on. Trudey says she didn’t feel comfortable burning paraffin around her baby so decided to create her own!

The thing that sets Firefly Earth apart is the brilliant business strategy. She has streamlined all her products to make it so much easier for consumers. Some companies may offer up to 30 different fragrance’s which is great for consumers who love bulk choice. Trudey says that after observing her sale trends over the years she made the decision to take more of a minimalistic approach and not overwhelm the bejesus out of her customers. Trudey says she quickly realised that it didn’t matter what she offered up, her customers always returned to the top 3 sellers. Angels Milk, Bondi & French Pear.

Having said that, this year she is offering a super special Christmas edition candle! It’s called Christmas Caramel, its the Angel’s Milk Blend with swirls of hot salted caramel notes. You won’t regret purchasing that one!

Finding a good, functional, friendly place to have a few drinks can be tricky. You want somewhere relaxed, but a place where your guests feel comfortable and ready for a good time. That’s exactly what you get at The Greens on William.

The Greens on William (formally the Bathurst City Community Club) has been operating for 8 years. They have also successfully obtained government grants which have allowed them to slowly upgrade the club including the latest spectacular renovation to the Great Room!

The Greens on William is a function & events centre. There are lawn bowls (both social & competitive) as well as themed kids parties and themed hens parties. There are also thrift shop markets and many other events!

The Greens on William is managed by the incredibly approachable Rebecca Mathie and she will ensure that your function or event is absolutely perfect.

One the greatest aspects of The Greens on William is their committment to the community by offering The Little Pantry which is a food bank service.

The Greens on William is and always has been a club for the community. They are passionate about supporting small and local businesses. They have no gaming on site so the entire place is a family friendly venue. They take take pride in everything they do and are very passionate about turning their client’s visions into reality.

They also stay on top of current issues and trends to provide exhibitions, seminars, live screenings and workshops that can provide members of the community with new experiences and knowledge.

2020 is lining up to be a brilliant year for The Greens on William. In January they are offering Kids Creative Workshops and speed dating for the grown ups on Friday 14 February 2020. There are Creative Culture Workshops on 18 January 2020 and the Thrift Shop Clothing Market is back on Saturday 15 February. One of the most highly anticipated events of 2020 is The Holisitc Approach, health and wellbeing Event on 21 March 2020. Can’t wait!
