{The Weekly Nest} This week we endured tantrums, bunnies and the evolution of Mondee Night Trackie Night

This week has been a beautiful one in our little nest. We have received many new ‘likers’ on Facebook and we send out a massive high-five to all of you for sharing the love!CentralNestBlogNew

In our personal nest we are eagerly counting down the days until our new little birdy comes to say hello. I swear the last month of pregnancy has about 474,096 days..

It has been a testing week with the toddler-bird this week, the hubby-bird and I have started a daily announcement of ‘and today’s tantrum proudly bought to you by…’ tantrum

Here are some of the fabulous discussions we have entered this week:

And today’s tantrum is proudly bought to you by:

  1. Because mummy refused to ring the firetruck people and tell them to come to our house so we can sign ‘hi’ to a fireman.
  2. Because mummy wouldn’t stop the rain
  3. Because the toy phone rang and Gracie wouldn’t take the call. Gracie is the dog.
  4. Because mummy wouldn’t ‘re-wrap’ the banana
  5. Because we wouldn’t paint our 4wd red instead of black
  6. Because we weren’t allowed to play with the garden edger
  7. Because we used the green cup, not the blue one.
  8. Because we used the blue cup, not the green one.
  9. Because they baby didn’t ‘hatch’ yet.
  10. Because we ran out of grapes.
  11. Because the cat didn’t want a hug.
  12. Because the mailman went past too quick.
  13. Because daddy went to work.
  14. Because the dog licked the door.

In other news, next weekend is a LOOOONG weekend (thank goodness!) and while you are sha-lumping around in a sugar coma from all the chocolate you will inevitably devour we have found some Black and White Bathroom inspo for you! Make sure you wrangle your own hubby-bird and head to Bunnings and get some shit sorted! ASAP.

Gorgeous Bathroom Inspo for you!

We found a really interesting article that proved to be quite popular on the blog this week. The 6 Signs You’re Done Having Babies really hit home with some of our beautiful  Nesters. Some said they had that ‘gut’ feeling that they were done and some said they were still waiting on that feeling to hit. We love hearing from you and appreciate when you take the time to share your feelings and experiences with the little nest community.

We discovered some brilliant Non-Chocolate Easter Gift Ideas this week for you, everyone gives chocolate but how about thinking outside the chocolate box this year? There is something in there for everyone! Something to keep, something to remember, something to keep the blood-sugars level!

If you are looking for a tear-jerker read while sipping your warm cuppa then our story on The Most Powerful Thing You Can Say To Another Mother really tugged at the heartstrings. It shows that underneath it all we are bound by this invisible ribbon that ties all mama-birds together.

Another great style-go-to we learnt about this week was Chi Khi. To say we LOVE this new brand is the world’s biggest understatement! Kick-started by the beautifully talented Natalie Bassingthwaighte they offer funky, unisex designs for the most precious cargo of all, our little birdies. Add this site to your favourites like yesterday!

Whilst perusing our calendar (because you know, we are cool like that!) we realised that school holidays are only a sniff and fart away! If you are looking for something fun to keep your little birdie entertained these holidays then check out the awesome timetable from Bathurst PCYC. Offering everything from Circus Skills to Rock Climbing they surely have something to keep your mini-me occupied!

Another article that really resonated with you this week was our story about sisters.  Sometimes Sisters are like Blisters, Irritating and Annoying, But The There Are Other Times. Whilst bloody frustrating sometimes they are your ‘people’ and will always be there for you. Share this with your people.

This week led to our life-changing discovery of Spylight. Now, let me break this down to you, you can actually purchase the look of your favourite TV star and have it sent directly to your home whilst in your trackie daks on a Mondee Night! How bloody sensational is that. Basically as soon as the episode airs the site uploads the look for you to buy!

Early in the week we found an article that while it discusses a less-than-fun topic it is really something you should consider. The reason why you should read 7 Signs You’re In An Unhappy Marriage is because it may just save your own relationship.

With love,

{This is Life} Sometimes sisters are like blisters, irritating and annoying, but then there are other times..

I am lucky enough to have three sisters, I am the eldest and we are all within six years of each other.

What I found most remarkable about having sisters is the that you always have a person. That special someone that you can go to when your boyfriend is being dumb or when you can’t find the right outfit or when life is just really giving you lemons.

What makes me even more grateful about having sisters if that now I can look at my own little girls and realise what a gift my husband and I have given them. We gave them the gift of each other.sisters

So here are some of my favourite things about having sisters:

They know your dirty laundry (and probably contributed to some of it!) A sister is a friend who despite knowing your secrets will still be standing next to you regardless.

No topic is off limits with your sister. Everything from your latest crush, to your money dramas, to how much your hate the psycho lady at work.

You’re born with an automatic BFF and that’s pretty damn cool.

If you are the younger sister you have an in-built bodyguard. Big sisters are born with an innate need to protect the littler ones. Whether this be the school bully, the mean sales assistant or rude stranger, big sisters are genetically predisposed to defend. I tell you what, you pick on my little sister and I am likely to go all Kevin Costner in Bodyguard at you.

While there is no body on planet earth that you love stronger than your sister, she is also the same person that you will fight the hardest with. I am talking verbal stoushes, physical brawls and emotional blackmail.

The best thing about sisters is that they have to forgive you and you forgive them. Even if it isn’t straight away, you realise it isn’t worth it and channel your inner Elsa and ‘let it go’.

No one quite understands your family like a mutual player. Your mate from school ain’t going to understand Uncle Frank and his hairy mole humour or why Nan thinks it’s funny to put sugar in the salt bowl.

Your sister will. She has been there. She lived it with you.

Only your sister knows that you called up sick to work once so that you could continue to watch your Party of Five Marathon. Plus, she knows who your favourite Backstreet Boy was (and rarely uses it against you.. O Hi, Nick Carter!)sisters4

Your sister is the perfect companion to go places with. Especially awkward places. You can blackmail her to come and she will dutifully show up. No longer are you clumsily standing in the corner alone you have your person with you.

Plus, you know that night that everyone has, the one where you go out for one quiet drink and somehow end up inhaling exactly 47,000 too many tequila shots and now somehow find yourself hanging out in a pub toilet.. well you can call her and she will come and save your sorry arse. She will pull over to let you vom out the car door and will only use it against you occasionally for the rest of your life.

Sisters have got your back.

Considering she was there for most of your life experiences she is the one person who can fill in those bloody annoying blanks when you can’t remember a person’s name, or place you went or the full lyrics to Gangsta’s Paradise..

If you and your sister are lucky enough to be about the same size then all of a sudden you have doubled (or tripled) your wardrobe! This extends to shoes, handbags, sunglasses. Suddenly it seems completely okay to spend $565 on a handbag because, well you know, it will definitely get used!sisters2

No one will ever be as honest with you as your sister. “Yes your bum does look fat in that dress” and “Dude, you really need to work on those hairy caterpillars, erm I mean eyebrows”.

A sister will tell you the harsh truth and you won’t get too offended because you would be disappointed with any less. Plus, you do the same thing to her.

No one in this galaxy can make you laugh like your sister. She gets you. She gets your humour. Tears will flow and bellies will ache after giggle fits. If only every one realised how actually hilarious you both thought yourselves to be, then surely you would have your own comedy club!

So if you are lucky enough to have a sister, why not give her a call and let her know how grateful you are to have her.

Much love Nesters x

{This is life} Friends really would do anthing for love..

This is spectacular. It’s moving. This is a real story about friendship and how strong bonds can be between people.

Have you thought what would happen if someone really close to you was diagnosed with cancer?

How would you react? Would you be holding fear and tears? or would there be wine and bonding?

I know which one I would prefer.

This video is beyond words.

In case your at work and unable to watch the video here is a picture ->

Bliss is.. Not drinking lava in the laundry

Before becoming a mama-bird I had visions of long cuddles with a sweet curly haired child who spoke politely and thoughtfully. We would have hours of blissful moments reading together, making cookies and having long walks in the park. We would play tennis. We would learn French. What a blissful life we would lead.

O, how wrong I was.keep-calm-and-hide-to-drink-tea

Now what this mama-bird has come to realise is that a blissful moment comprises of watching my children NOT wipe snot on each other whilst I hide in the laundry, slurping impatiently on my scalding hot cup of tea.

Said tea is hotter than volcanic lava as it has been reheated 4 times in the microwave because baby-bird has already needed two baths, 3 changes of clothes, 2 bottles, one mix of pears and rhubarb and a milk-arrowroot biscuit. Toddler-bird is on her third bowl of weetbix and is demanding hummus and carrots (but the carrots must be cut in long pieces just like on TV mama, you know like on ‘Mastersheve’). All before 10am.

Hiding, taking refuge, Patiently standing in the laundry sipping tea is completely fine. I am not ‘one of those parents’. You know the ones that can’t even drink of cup of tea in the mornings. This mama-bird is completely in control. There is no fear to be smelt here.

Having said that, what this mama-bird is starting to realise is that bliss are the days when you don’t have to try and convince the lady at the bakery that the weird green substance on your shoulder (read: regurgitated broccoli) is the new black.

Bliss are the days where you haven’t felt obliged to provide an afternoon seminar dedicated to learning why it is not appropriate to feed cat food to baby-bird. EVEN if she does seem to like it.

Bliss are the days where you are not found topless, straight from the shower, caught mid-run by the postman at the front door, chasing toddler-bird down the hallway because she is armed with a handful of sultanas, talcum powder and a stapler.

Bliss are the days where toddler-bird’s invisible frenemy, Kevin (the dragon) does not magically jump out from behind the fridge and make toddler-bird squeal. EVERY 3 MINUTES

Bliss are the days where a lecture on social security is not required. Just in case you missed it, yesterday’s topic was learning the importance of not hiding mama-bird’s keys in the letterbox. I am sure Parliament House will release a statement soon.

Bliss are the days when you are able to go to the bathroom (alone) and not return to find toddler-bird showing baby-bird what snow is. Using 1 kilogram of uncooked rice.

Bliss are the days where you are able to answer your IPhone without it being covered in gravy or spit or really any non-Apple approved substance.

Bliss are the days where you don’t have to remind toddler-bird that the cat does not like when you chase him, let alone when you try teaching him to drink apple juice… through a straw. Please stop. Love mama-bird.

Sometimes though, bliss really is watching baby-bird play peek-a-boo, behind a clear water bottle.

Bliss really is when you catch toddler-bird telling baby-bird that she is glad papa-bird ‘bought’ her from Target.

Bliss really is when toddler-bird declares to her kindy class that ‘mama & papa are my best friends’

Bliss really is seeing two little birds building a strong relationship that will take them into the big world together one day.

Bliss really is, when all is quiet, everyone is asleep. You take a sip of your appropriately heated tea and realise that you cannot wait to see what sort of day tomorrow is.
