{The Nest Charity} How one bottle can change a woman’s life

There are over 7 billion people on earth and the scariest thing is that 1 in 3 women worldwide don’t have access to a toilet (that is 2.4 billion people!) and are forced to go out in the open, which exposes them to shame, risk of attack, the spread of disease and rape.

This means there are more than 800 million women and girls between the ages of 15 and 49 years old are menstruating who don’t have a toilet to use. This affects so many other areas of their lives……It forces women and girls to miss six days a month from school and work which makes them fall behind and prevents them from supporting their families.

These women benefit in so many ways by having a clean, safe toilet to use – it improves their confidence, nutrition, productivity, gender equality and tackles poverty. To help end this sanitation crisis UNICEF and Domestos have partnered and are committed to help 25 million people have a access to a toilet by 2020. 3186-1020096-buybottle-bkg_v4

All you have to do to help is buy a specially marked bottle of Domestos from July to December 2016 where each bottle contributes directly to the sanitation crisis. Easy done. You need to clean your house so why not help our sisterhood in the process?

You can find more information about this great cause at More information here Domestos – our mission

To  help bring this issue to life Domestos and UNICEF recently put a ‘see through loo’ at Bondi Beach to see how people would feel about having to go to the toilet in the open. I don’t know about you, but that is something I CERTAINLY wouldn’t want everyone to see. You can see the video on the loo here ->

So just on board and help our sistas out.

{The Nest Writes} Empowered.

There is a shit-tonne-load of hatred lately towards Kim Kardashian and her naked selfies. She says she feels empowered, everyone else says nu-uh girlfriend. I am really interested in what makes someone feel empowered. So I am going to channel my inner law student and break it down.
kim

According to The Oxford Dictionary, Empower means to “make someone stronger and more confident”. On an individual level, empowerment allows someone to feel self-reliant, powerful and resilient. The crux however is how empowerment is interpreted differently for each individual person. Read that again, EACH. INDIVIDUAL. PERSON. Continue reading

{The Weekly Nest} This week we endured tantrums, bunnies and the evolution of Mondee Night Trackie Night

This week has been a beautiful one in our little nest. We have received many new ‘likers’ on Facebook and we send out a massive high-five to all of you for sharing the love!CentralNestBlogNew

In our personal nest we are eagerly counting down the days until our new little birdy comes to say hello. I swear the last month of pregnancy has about 474,096 days..

It has been a testing week with the toddler-bird this week, the hubby-bird and I have started a daily announcement of ‘and today’s tantrum proudly bought to you by…’ tantrum

Here are some of the fabulous discussions we have entered this week:

And today’s tantrum is proudly bought to you by:

  1. Because mummy refused to ring the firetruck people and tell them to come to our house so we can sign ‘hi’ to a fireman.
  2. Because mummy wouldn’t stop the rain
  3. Because the toy phone rang and Gracie wouldn’t take the call. Gracie is the dog.
  4. Because mummy wouldn’t ‘re-wrap’ the banana
  5. Because we wouldn’t paint our 4wd red instead of black
  6. Because we weren’t allowed to play with the garden edger
  7. Because we used the green cup, not the blue one.
  8. Because we used the blue cup, not the green one.
  9. Because they baby didn’t ‘hatch’ yet.
  10. Because we ran out of grapes.
  11. Because the cat didn’t want a hug.
  12. Because the mailman went past too quick.
  13. Because daddy went to work.
  14. Because the dog licked the door.

In other news, next weekend is a LOOOONG weekend (thank goodness!) and while you are sha-lumping around in a sugar coma from all the chocolate you will inevitably devour we have found some Black and White Bathroom inspo for you! Make sure you wrangle your own hubby-bird and head to Bunnings and get some shit sorted! ASAP.

Gorgeous Bathroom Inspo for you!

We found a really interesting article that proved to be quite popular on the blog this week. The 6 Signs You’re Done Having Babies really hit home with some of our beautiful  Nesters. Some said they had that ‘gut’ feeling that they were done and some said they were still waiting on that feeling to hit. We love hearing from you and appreciate when you take the time to share your feelings and experiences with the little nest community.

We discovered some brilliant Non-Chocolate Easter Gift Ideas this week for you, everyone gives chocolate but how about thinking outside the chocolate box this year? There is something in there for everyone! Something to keep, something to remember, something to keep the blood-sugars level!

If you are looking for a tear-jerker read while sipping your warm cuppa then our story on The Most Powerful Thing You Can Say To Another Mother really tugged at the heartstrings. It shows that underneath it all we are bound by this invisible ribbon that ties all mama-birds together.

Another great style-go-to we learnt about this week was Chi Khi. To say we LOVE this new brand is the world’s biggest understatement! Kick-started by the beautifully talented Natalie Bassingthwaighte they offer funky, unisex designs for the most precious cargo of all, our little birdies. Add this site to your favourites like yesterday!

Whilst perusing our calendar (because you know, we are cool like that!) we realised that school holidays are only a sniff and fart away! If you are looking for something fun to keep your little birdie entertained these holidays then check out the awesome timetable from Bathurst PCYC. Offering everything from Circus Skills to Rock Climbing they surely have something to keep your mini-me occupied!

Another article that really resonated with you this week was our story about sisters.  Sometimes Sisters are like Blisters, Irritating and Annoying, But The There Are Other Times. Whilst bloody frustrating sometimes they are your ‘people’ and will always be there for you. Share this with your people.

This week led to our life-changing discovery of Spylight. Now, let me break this down to you, you can actually purchase the look of your favourite TV star and have it sent directly to your home whilst in your trackie daks on a Mondee Night! How bloody sensational is that. Basically as soon as the episode airs the site uploads the look for you to buy!

Early in the week we found an article that while it discusses a less-than-fun topic it is really something you should consider. The reason why you should read 7 Signs You’re In An Unhappy Marriage is because it may just save your own relationship.

If you are looking to get out and about this weekend why not check some of these out?

{This is Life} Sometimes sisters are like blisters, irritating and annoying, but then there are other times..

I am lucky enough to have three sisters, I am the eldest and we are all within six years of each other.

What I found most remarkable about having sisters is the that you always have a person. That special someone that you can go to when your boyfriend is being dumb or when you can’t find the right outfit or when life is just really giving you lemons.

What makes me even more grateful about having sisters if that now I can look at my own little girls and realise what a gift my husband and I have given them. We gave them the gift of each other.sisters

So here are some of my favourite things about having sisters:

YOU HAVE AN IN-BUILT BEST FRIEND

They know your dirty laundry (and probably contributed to some of it!) A sister is a friend who despite knowing your secrets will still be standing next to you regardless.

No topic is off limits with your sister. Everything from your latest crush, to your money dramas, to how much your hate the psycho lady at work.

You’re born with an automatic BFF and that’s pretty damn cool.

BODYGUARD

If you are the younger sister you have an in-built bodyguard. Big sisters are born with an innate need to protect the littler ones. Whether this be the school bully, the mean sales assistant or rude stranger, big sisters are genetically predisposed to defend. I tell you what, you pick on my little sister and I am likely to go all Kevin Costner in Bodyguard at you.

LOVERS & FIGHTERS

While there is no body on planet earth that you love stronger than your sister, she is also the same person that you will fight the hardest with. I am talking verbal stoushes, physical brawls and emotional blackmail.

The best thing about sisters is that they have to forgive you and you forgive them. Even if it isn’t straight away, you realise it isn’t worth it and channel your inner Elsa and ‘let it go’.

THE INSIDE STORY

No one quite understands your family like a mutual player. Your mate from school ain’t going to understand Uncle Frank and his hairy mole humour or why Nan thinks it’s funny to put sugar in the salt bowl.

Your sister will. She has been there. She lived it with you.

YOUR SECRETS ARE SAFE

Only your sister knows that you called up sick to work once so that you could continue to watch your Party of Five Marathon. Plus, she knows who your favourite Backstreet Boy was (and rarely uses it against you.. O Hi, Nick Carter!)sisters4

I GOTCHA BACK BIATCH

Your sister is the perfect companion to go places with. Especially awkward places. You can blackmail her to come and she will dutifully show up. No longer are you clumsily standing in the corner alone you have your person with you.

Plus, you know that night that everyone has, the one where you go out for one quiet drink and somehow end up inhaling exactly 47,000 too many tequila shots and now somehow find yourself hanging out in a pub toilet.. well you can call her and she will come and save your sorry arse. She will pull over to let you vom out the car door and will only use it against you occasionally for the rest of your life.

Sisters have got your back.

TIP OF THE TONGUE REMEMBER-ER PERSON

Considering she was there for most of your life experiences she is the one person who can fill in those bloody annoying blanks when you can’t remember a person’s name, or place you went or the full lyrics to Gangsta’s Paradise..

WARDROBE VALUES

If you and your sister are lucky enough to be about the same size then all of a sudden you have doubled (or tripled) your wardrobe! This extends to shoes, handbags, sunglasses. Suddenly it seems completely okay to spend $565 on a handbag because, well you know, it will definitely get used!sisters2

BRUTAL HONESTY

No one will ever be as honest with you as your sister. “Yes your bum does look fat in that dress” and “Dude, you really need to work on those hairy caterpillars, erm I mean eyebrows”.

A sister will tell you the harsh truth and you won’t get too offended because you would be disappointed with any less. Plus, you do the same thing to her.

LAUGH

No one in this galaxy can make you laugh like your sister. She gets you. She gets your humour. Tears will flow and bellies will ache after giggle fits. If only every one realised how actually hilarious you both thought yourselves to be, then surely you would have your own comedy club!

sister 5

So if you are lucky enough to have a sister, why not give her a call and let her know how grateful you are to have her.

Much love Nesters x

{This is life} Friends really would do anthing for love..

This is spectacular. It’s moving. This is a real story about friendship and how strong bonds can be between people.

Have you thought what would happen if someone really close to you was diagnosed with cancer?

How would you react? Would you be holding fear and tears? or would there be wine and bonding?

I know which one I would prefer.

This video is beyond words.

In case your at work and unable to watch the video here is a picture ->

{Inspirational} What is behind the red dress? One woman’s brave choice to share her body’s story

Some woman are brave and do things that really makes me admire them. This is one such example:

breastcancer

A Brisbane woman who posted candid images of her post-cancer surgery body online was horrified when more than 100 people “unfriended” her because they deemed the pictures “offensive”.

Beth Whaanga was diagnosed with cancer on her 32nd birthday last year and underwent a double mastectomy and a hysterectomy.

Her various surgeries have left her body scarred but she was determined not to be ashamed so asked her friend Nadia Masot, a photographer, to capture her new figure in a series of portraits.

Beth was thrilled with the images and shared them on Facebook but was horrified when more than 100 people immediately “unfriended” her, saying the pictures were obscene and disgusting.

“These pictures are in no way pornographic,” Beth’s sister Emma Rayner said. “They represent the truth about cancer and what measures some women will need to take to survive.

“I think it’s brave that she can show her scars and I think many more women will hopefully check their own bodies every now and then.”
