{Girl Crush Tuesday} Helen Sherman sings all the right notes

We have some pretty hard girl crushes. These are the types of ladies that stamp their style on the world. They are the type of people that will always be remembered and little girls grow up wanting to be. They are women of substance. Women that make the world a better place. Happy Girl Crush Tuesday everybody.line4Today’s girl crush is on someone very special (and someone I know personally!). Today we salute the wonderfully talented mezzo-soprano Helen Sherman.

Helen was born in Australia and attended MacKillop College with yours truly! Following school she studied music at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music where she completed a Bachelor of Music and Post Graduate Diploma in opera. Not long afterwards Helen was awarded a scholarship at the prestigeous Royal Northern College of Music where she was the first student to receive the International Artists Diploma in opera. In 2011 Helen represented Australia at the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition! How brilliant! She again represented her country in 2014, when she was the only mezzo selected as a finalist in the Francisco Viñas International Singing Competition, held in Barcelona. In 2013 Helen was awarded 3rd prize in the prestigious Wigmore Hall International Song Competition and in 2014 was invited to sing in the Opening Ceremony of the Tour de France, Le Grand Depart held at Leeds Arena. Helen is a Samling Scholar and an associate artist for Classical Opera Company. Continue reading

{Girl Crush Tuesday} The fantastically powerful Lisa

Lisa Wilkinson epitomises girl power at its absolute best. She is powerful, intelligent, beautiful and opinionated.

She is a girl next door who everyone can imagine inviting over for a barbecue but on the same token she is a fiercely smart business woman who led the rise of a new magazine empire when she first edited Dolly, then headed Cleo. In fact, Lisa guided Cleo to such heights that it became the number one selling women’s lifestyle magazine per capita in the world. Simply extraordinary.

She is a journalist, motivational speaker, Today Show host, and media personality. More than that though, she is a wife, mother and friend.

Lisa is the type of lady who little girls everywhere can idolise, she shows that power, intellect and strength really are the most important things to becoming a beautiful person.

Thank you Lisa for being a fantastic role model to my daughters.

{Girl Crush Tuesday} The sensationally strong Alisa

We have some pretty hard girl crushes. These are the types of ladies that stamp their style on the world. They are the type of people that will always be remembered and little girls grow up wanting to be. They are women of substance.  Women that make the world a better place.

Happy Girl Crush Tuesday everybody.line4Alisa Camplin is an absolute champion. She is strong and talented, clever and grounded – she really is an all-round Australian superstar.

Alisa is arguably Australia’s best ever aerial skier and she took out gold at the 2002 Winter Olympic and followed it up with a bronze in 2006. She was the first Australian skier to win medals at consecutive Winter Olympics.

The best thing about Alisa is that she is more than that, she is more than an athlete, more than an aerial superstar, she is a champion of a person.

Following the devastating loss of her son to congenital heart disease at just 10 days old, Alisa and her husband founded the Finnan’s Gift Project. Together, they have turned their heartbreaking grief into a way to help other families who are experiencing the devastation that is congenital heart disease. You can find more information about Finnan’s Gift here -> Finnan’s Gift.

On top of all that, Alisa is a power businesswoman who holds her own in the corporate world. She has not only worked for IBM but is an in demand executive coach and professional keynote speaker. Plus she balances work-life balance with her husband and gorgeous little daughter, Florence.

We salute you Alisa. Thank you for showing little girls everywhere that strength and power is not only physical but also comes from within. You really are the perfect role model.
