Hi, my name is Kayana and I am addicted to mason jars. Well, actually jars of all types.
I take responsibility for my addiction, well, I blame Pinterest and all other websites that make them look so bloody cool.
The best thing about them is their ability to be used for food. Here is one of my new favourite finds to help bring salad back.. -> Buzzfeed – Mason Jar Salads
What’s your favourite combo Nesters?
Salads. They are good for you and shit.
Eat them. Often.
Sometimes.. they can be a bit blerh if you don’t give them a little lovin’ and spice them up a bit!
I stumbled across this diagram on Pinterest (yes, hubby-bird I was studying ) and it is AWESOME!

New theory to feeding the kid.
Step 1: Throw out food that took 45 minutes to prepare, hand toddler piece of plastic cheese.
Step 2: There is no step two.
In reality, as much as I would LOVE to do that ALL the time, that little part of my brain that has knowledge of nutrition means that I am guilted into constantly pursuing the long road to a good, balanced diet.
When you are at your wits end look no further than the very clever team at One Handed Cooks
I find them my saviour when it comes to toddler-bird feeding ideas.
Our go-to is their Homemade Finger Food Ideas list. Trust me when I say you should bookmark this and rely on it often!
Our family’s favourites are the Roast Vegetable Tartlets and Popcorn Chicken. YUM!
Happy cooking Nesters xo
We have some pretty hard girl crushes. These are the types of ladies that stamp their style on the world. They are the type of people that will always be remembered and little girls grow up wanting to be. They are women of substance. Women that make the world a better place.
Happy Girl Crush Tuesday everybody.
Today’s girl crush is on the superbly talented and ever creative Donna Hay.
Ms Hay is quite possibility my biggest crush! Not a week goes by that I don’t go straight to one of her fantastic cook books looking for inspiration. Her meals are achievable, delicious and nutritious (and most are completely doable even with a toddler bird on the bench and a baby bird on the hip!)
She makes good, smart food available to the masses. Through well-conceived books she enables even the most beginner of chefs to impress any dinner party guest.
She is more than just a foodie, she is a fierce business woman, who shows all little girls that through hard work, determination and perseverance you really can make your dreams come true. Plus, she does all this while in an industry often dominated by men.
Donna offers a wide selection of products, ranging from her cook books all the way through to utensils and giftware. Her website is a one-stop haven for any food lover. Her style is impeccable and you can spend hours lovingly turning the pages on her magazines just absorbing the colours, the design and overall prettiness of it all.
The wonderful thing about the way Donna cooks is that it is fuss-free but still still chic and a wee bit fancy. Somehow she makes the impossible possible and before you know it the little birdies want to eat chicken yakitori every night!
Ms Hay will forever be on my bucket list of people to meet, she is an inspiration for how a passion for food can turn into a passion for life. Her empire is constantly growing and we could not be happier.

Getting the little birdies to eat green beans is not the easiest thing. Especially if you make an epic fail and let it slip that they are good for them..
So, instead of just cooking them the old-fashioned-steaming-way, why not try something just a little bit different?
The fantastic team at Super Healthy Kids have added a little spin on the boring old beans. You can’t tell me that “Green Fries’ doesn’t sound just a little more appetising?
Head here to find the recipe -> Green Fries
Do you have a sneaky way to get your kids to eat more veggies?
Happy eating Nesters!
We have stumbled across the finest taste of Italy this side of the mountains. Little Italy in Bathurst was created by Pina Verzino last March for fun. She offers cooking lessons that are given in a very friendly and fun way.
Pina, a wife and mother to two growing boys moved to Australia with her family and saw the opportunity to start her very own business offering her Italian to the people.
What’s not to love about traditional Italian food in little ol’ Bathurst New South Wales?
Little Italy in Bathurst offers cooking lessons of one hour, once a week. Each class includes one recipe, instructions and all the ingredients needed. Plus, at the end you get to taste the finished product!
What an excellent reason to grab a girlfriend, book in to learn some new skills, meet a lovely lady and to fill up your tummy.
For more information you can contact Pina on her facebook page -> Little Italy Bathurst NSW
Cooking is for me, is what classical music is for smart people. Relaxing. Enjoyable. Escapism.
I really enjoy finding exciting, new ways to cook. Ways, that aren’t exactly the norm.
Steamed cupcakes – who-woulda-thunk-it?
These little bad-boys look like little dreams I can’t wait to try out!
You can find the recipe here -> Steam cupcakes: Apam Dot Dot
Enjoy cooking Nesters!
