{Christmas Prizeapolooza 2018} A memorable Christmas with Jen Stocks

Jennifer Stocks is one of the kindest, talented, friendliest person I know. She is an artist who takes an immense amount of pride in her work and someone who manages to capture your family’s love in a moment in time.

Jen is one of Australia’s most sought after and celebrated photographers and has won more awards than she can poke a stick at!

She prides herself on fresh, contemporary images that are honest and often breathtaking.

She captures moments in time so you can keep them for always.

Jen is a professional newborn, baby, child & family photographer servicing the Central West and surrounding areas.

Our family has had the pleasure of working with Jen on numerous occasions and she captures those pivotal moments between moments – you know the ones that I will want to relive as we all grow.

Jen offers a wide range of photography sessions to suit your needs. My favourite are the Sunset Sessions. These are casual afternoons spent capturing your family. They don’t take nearly as long as a full session but help update photos of growing children and families.  Plus it’s WAY easier keeping a toddler in check for a shorter period of time!

If you want to capture memories, then you need to contact Jennifer Stocks Photography today.

{Christmas Prizeapolooza 2018} Grab some Kisses From Kate

If you have been following the blog for a while you will know that I am an absolute sucker for lipstick. I honestly believe that whacking some red on, makes every day better. You feel more confident and more powerful just with that little move.

Little did I know there was SO much more choice than just a simple red lippy from woolies.

My eyes were open by the lovely Kate Davis who is a local, independent LipSence, SeneGene Skincare and Makeup distributor.

Not only has she become my go-to for lipstick but now ALL my makeup needs/wants/demands/desires/looks.

Kate tells me one of the things that drew her to the products were the fact that they are lead free, wax free, gluten free, contain no animal by-products and aren’t tested on animals. How amazing is that?

You know what else gives Kate credit in my book? The only reason she started selling the products in the first place is because she fell so in love with them when she was using them just for personal use. I love when people just find a passion for something because it actually works for them.

Kate says she is learning more and more about proper skin care and budge proof makeup every single day, and all she wants to do is help other women feel as good about themselves as possible.

Plus, Kate is just an ordinary everyday woman who doesn’t have hours to get ready in the morning, so she just needs reliable products that make her feel a million bucks (but without a hefty price tag)

She had me hooked the moment she told me their lipsticks would last basically all day. So of course I was like “game on mole” and tested it. To my surprise it did actually last. I’m talking through 3 coffees, lunch, slobbery baby kisses and much more.

Check out KissesFromKate today because you won’t regret it (plus it makes Christmas shopping SUPER easy!)

{Christmas Prizeapolooza 2018} Angela Morris is Eye Opening

There is nothing more important than good health and Angela Morris Optometrist helps protect one of the most important areas of health, your eyes.

Owned and operated by Optometrists Angela and Laurence and with the help of Robyn their practice manager/ optical dispenser and Tracy their eye wear consultant they offer all you need for eye health happiness.

Angela Morris Optometrist are not the new kids on the block, in fact they will be celebrating their 20th birthday next year! They offer quality service and premium products in a relaxed and friendly way. In fact my kids actually look forward to their annual eye checkups with the team!

Angela Morris Optometrist  offer bulk-billed Medicare eye examinations. Even if you do not need glasses, you should have a regular check up to ensure the good health of your eyes for such problems as macula degeneration, glaucoma and cataracts.

Recently they even acquired an OCT (Optical Coherence Tomographer) which creates 3D images of the eyes to help in the early detection of macula degeneration and glaucoma. This brilliant piece of machinery means these conditions are picked up a lot earlier.

My little ones have been going to see the team at Angela Morris Optometrist since they were little and in fact all children should be having regular eye checks from about the time they are six (6) months old. These checks are important to make sure any problems are noticed prior to starting school so their learning is off to the best possible start!

Angela Morris Optometrist provide all types of contact lenses including daily disposables and more specialised contact lens fittings. Unlike glasses, contact lenses will not fog up or fall off when exercising. Contacts also give you an unrestricted view so that your vision is as natural as possible.

Angela Morris Optometrist also pride themselves on being heavily involved in the community and are always looking for ways to give back. They have a great ongoing reputation for quality customer service and regularly give back to the community by offering free child vision assessments in preschools and schools, as well as sponsoring community initiatives such as local theatre performances, sporting groups, schools and charities.

As an independent optometry practice they are not restricted to stocking certain brands, which means they can offer their customers an extensive range of frame options.  Angela still enjoys taking a hands-on role when selecting frames and their stock is constantly changing as suppliers visit on an almost weekly basis. So if you have a particular style in mind it can be sourced for you quickly and easily.

What I love is that Angela Morris Optometrist carry styles to suit everyone. From edgy plastic frames in bold, vibrant colours to sporty lightweight titanium or classic, rimless designs, you can be sure they will take the time to help you find the perfect look.

Plus, as a sunglasses addict I love their huge range of sunglasses. They have some of the coolest Maui Jim sunglasses. Maui Jim have the clearest polarised lenses that protect your eyes from glare and harmful UV, whilst giving you unbelievable clarity and colour. They are pretty much all round winners that’s for sure! (hint: Christmas present = sorted)

{5 minutes with…} A Clinical Nutritionist

Recently I was lucky enough to spend some time with Rachel Murray of Total Nutrition. Rachel is based in Bathurst and offers a service that I personally believe more people should be utilising.

Total Nutrition by Rachel Murray Bathurst

So, I asked Rachel some questions:

What does a clinical nutritionist do?

I works with clients with various health conditions and health goals and use nutritional principles to assist them on their individual health journey. I have been practicing in Bathurst for just over a year.

What do you like most about your job?

I am really passionate about nutrition and love being able to share this with my clients. I also really enjoy being able to empower individuals to make their own choices regarding food, while listening to their own bodies

So, why should people see a clinical nutritionist?

Individuals may choose to see a clinical nutritionist for a number of reasons. Some clients come to me for guidance on what foods to eat, recipe ideas and food allergy/intolerance substitutes, while other see me for specific health conditions from IBS to hypertension to weight loss. And many other conditions in between. At the end of the day, the foods we consume can have an extensive impact on many facets of our health.

What is one tip you could give people for improving their health?

I really believe that reducing processed foods and preparing foods in advance help with overall health (Sorry that’s two tips!)

Why is good gut health so important?

Gut health is a highly researched topic in natural medicine and the findings are continually linking gut health to a range of health conditions from mental health to reproductive health, immunology, dermatology and many more. In fact, a large portion of the body’s immune system is location within the GI tract and hence, there is no surprise that by optimising digestive health, simultaneously we are facilitating our body’s ability to fight off disease.

What’s a simple way to get started with good gut health?

* Firstly reducing processed foods and foods high in refined sugars.

* Consuming natural probiotics such as those found in plain yoghurt and fermented foods

* Consuming prebiotic containing foods such as garlic, onion, carrots, tomato, chia seeds, flax seeds etc.

What are some tips for the best diet for little ones to keep them healthy throughout winter

Vitamin C: A lot of people have heard about the importance of Vitamin C when it comes to the immune system. Vitamin C can help to reduce the severity and duration of colds, and help to reduce the severity of upper respiratory tract infections. Foods to include: Oranges, broccoli, strawberries, red capsicum.

Zinc: Zinc is an essential mineral that has immune boosting properties and something to consider to help get through the winter months. Foods to include: meat, fish, poultry, legumes and dairy

Gut health: As mentioned above, gut health has been linked with the immune system

Is a nutritionist the best person to see if you are diagnosed with pre-diabetes or diabetes?

Clinical Nutritionists can assist individuals with diabetes by educating them on stabilising blood sugar levels through nutritional intake. This would be done alongside the individuals GP and the medications that may be prescribed.

Do you recommend taking multivitamins?

Yes and No… I always say that supplements such as multivitamins should supplement a healthy lifestyle and nutritious intake of foods and not be used to replace nutritious foods. There are also situations where individuals may need additional nutritional support through supplementation such as high stress environments, athletes, health conditions.

Please note: As everyone is different, nutritional needs will vary from person to person. What works for one person may not work for the next. You should speak to Rachel directly for a one-on-one program designed for your personal circumstances.

{Locally found} Autumnfest 2018

One of my most favourite things about this time of year is just how beautiful our area is. The leaves are starting to change, there is a crispness to the mornings but the days still envelope you with warmness. walk

A little while ago we were lucky enough to attend Autumnfest at Mayfield Garden.

You all know my love affair with Mayfield Garden and it is honestly because we are yet to attend the garden and not have a wonderful day filled with love, adventure and laughter.

You can explore the garden including the grotto waterfall (kids’ highlight) as well as the garden nursery (my favourite) and the cafe (hubs’ favourite!).

The kids spend the day interacting with nature, there are animals everywhere (including a very friendly peacock!) and there are secret tunnels, winding paths and breathtaking views.

Autumnfest is a day where the garden is transformed and great local bands set up stage in front of the beautiful water feature and the day is spend snacking on beautiful food, listening to music while being surrounded by family and friends.

There are stalls and free face painting for the kids. There was a giant leaf pit and even the chance to meet the musicians.

The best part – we take the kids every year and it’s something we all equally enjoy. There really is something for everyone.

We love the garden and the whole family eagerly marks the calendar as soon as we hear about the next event.

Get your family, friends and even the pet dog and explore one of our areas greatest wonderlands. Mayfield Garden is open just about every single day of the year.

{Christmas Prizeapolooza 2017} A Smallprint on Christmas

There is something special about being able to remember just how small your little people were and just how much love you have for them. The gorgeous Jess from Smallprint Central West can help you do just that!

Smallprint Central West is a small business that provides handcrafted fine silver jewellery that captures your loved ones finger, hand or foot prints. They can also capture your loved one’s artwork or handwriting! 15241249_1151306551663117_7734549388064542575_n

What is remarkable is the story behind Smallprint Central West. The business was started back in 2012 shortly after Jess’ son passed away.  She says she had her son Tyler’s prints taken while he was in palliative care in Sydney and once she returned back home realised there was no one in the area who could help turn his prints into a permanent reminder. So, Smallprint Central West was started. Jess says the business gave her a reason to get out of bed each morning and something to concentrate on during her grief.

That’s the part that makes Smallprint Central West so special, it literally comes from a place of knowing. It’s knowing that you want to cherish those memories, it’s knowing you need to remember the size of the fingerprint. It’s the knowing that she can create a keepsake that will keep families feeling closer to someone who passed too soon.

Smallprint Central West travels and can be around in those times of grief. Jess says she can been welcomed into homes at times when the world around them is crumbling. Whether a baby was born sleeping, a child lost to SIDS or capturing an elderly person’s fingerprints before it’s too late. 24899865_1491935704266865_1516579497655757499_n

Smallprint Central West also stocks a special print taking kit that can be posted to funeral homes so that a family can capture a print and order when they are ready to do so.

When you support Smallprint Central West you are literally helping to support someone’s family. Jess says she is often handcrafting new pieces at 5am while her children are still sleeping!

Each piece is hand made by Jess. She doesn’t send them away to be a made in a factory, they are made in her home. The fingerprint range is actually printed directly into silver which not only captures maximum detail but also means your loved one actually touches your pendant.

Smallprint Central West also recognises that sometimes life can be really tough so they offer a one month layby on every order.

Make sure you capture your loved one today:

{Christmas Prizeapolooza 2017} Christmas memories with Aimee

So as we sit here at the end of another year, time just seems to be escaping quicker then ever before. It reminds me just how important capturing these moments are. 20882822_1672219762830483_8347622416954975669_n

That’s where my gorgeous friend Aimee Cook steps in.

Aimee Cook Photography is located in Bathurst and is one of the leading family and newborn photographers in the area. The best thing about Aimee is that she has this innate ability to capture the in-between moments. You won’t end up with a bunch of staged photos she instead celebrates the giggles and tickles, and quiet, less obvious love.

Offering everything from outdoor family photo shoots to small intimate moments being captured in her purpose-built studio she can provide your family with the most precious gift of all, eternal memories. 23755623_1757379614314497_3329679038137059139_n
