{The Nest Health} Exercising your way into the new year

Today our resident health expert Larissa Beer from Larissa Beer Personal Training gives us the information we need to rediscover our motivation after Christmas.

line4

Christmas is my absolute favourite time of year, what is there not to love? Carols, lights, Christmas trees. But it’s a tricky time of year when it comes to sticking to your exercise and eating plans.riss2

There are numerous Christmas parties and different types of foods that you normally wouldn’t eat, our stomachs are in a perpetual state of full. Whether it’s the goodies at the latest party or the first batches of fudge or gingerbread cookies, you’re probably filling up more than you normally do.

While there is nothing wrong with a little indulgence this time of year (as long as you try not to overeat!). It can, however be extremely hard to get going for your daily jog or class with a belly full of Christmas spirit.

My advice to you is to try to resist the urge to get lazy! It is always important to get exercise in, but it is especially important during a season where you will be eating more (or a lot more!) than usual.

You are probably thinking – ‘I’m already off the bandwagon I might as well wait until January to start back up with my fitness regime’. Nope!! The time to get back at it is now! The longer you are sedentary, the harder it is to get your body moving again. Don’t wait until January 1st to start working out again. Chances are you’ll be a little hungover that day anyway!

Get back to your gym/pool/classes/runs/personal training sessions now! Exercise tonight! Even if it’s a short walk and a set of lunges and situps. Do something to get your body and mind back in the game as soon as possible.

To get back into a fitness routine after a short break you should re-assess your goals and make a new fitness plan. It can be hard to get back into exercise (or anything for that matter) without a plan, so I recommend coming up with a short term goal that is achievable and specific.

For example: I will work out Monday, Wednesday and Friday this week after work. Monday I will go for a jog, Wednesday I will do a pump class and Friday I will go to RPM. Having a plan makes your decision to work out easier and should help motivate you to get back into the swing of things.

Lambert & Lord offer a beautiful range of paper goods and partyware, for entertaining and every day.

Lambert & Lord has been operating at www.lambertandlord.com.au since the beginning of October 2013 but you might remember them from their small shop in Keppel Street, Bathurst called The Party Table.

The thing that separates Lambert & Lord is the fact that they stock a beautiful range of premium products that are often unavailable outside of metropolitan areas.

Being a local business, they offer the convenience of shopping online with competitive prices and an extensive range. Bathurst customers can add to this free delivery on orders over $30.00 or free pick-up at Gorgeousness in William Street.

Their main product range is all about simple, stylish colour and fun. {Prizeapolooza} Sassy Little sistas should be on Santa’s list..

christmas photoshop small copy

While we usually focus on local businesses during the Christmas Prizeapolooza Sassy Little Sistas is the worthy exception!PicsArt

Owned and operated by the very talented Tanya from Leeville in Northern NSW (see: more country than city) Sassy Sistas is a wonderful place filled with great design, clever workmanship and fabulous style (plus her sister lives in Bathurst so we will accept her as a local anyway!)

While I am lucky to make a peanut butter sandwich, Tanya is delicately creating all types of gifts and clothing for the little birdies in your life. photo-3

Tanya has taken her lifelong love of sewing for family and friends and turned it into her very own business. While she studied textiles and design in school she is a self-taught handmaiden! photo

Sassy Little Sistas came about after Tanya found that she was unable to locate good quality, unique items for her own children and as a result identified a market for her own high quality, handmade items.

Tanya prides herself on quality workmanship, rather than quantity. Only using the highest quality materials and her very broad skillset she creates fabulous designs that you are unable to find anywhere else.

You can contact Sassy Little Sistas either by email or Facebook:

{Cook this} Roll me in sprinkles and call me chocolate balls

Let me start by making a public service announcement. These are not good for you. AT ALL. Not even in your wildest ‘but chocolate comes from cocoa which comes from a tree that makes it a plant, therefore is pretty much the same as a salad‘ justifications will this ever be good for you.

BUT. THEY. ARE. EASY. POPULAR. DELICIOUS. LITTLE. TREATS

The chocolate balls are super simple (like even I can make them, okay admittedly the three year old little birdie did most of the work) but we made them for a party we had and they went quicker than Miley Cyrus’ Disney Contract.

chocolate balls

You can find the original recipe here at the fabulous -> The Organised Housewife blog.

Feel free to live dangerously and perhaps even roll them in coconut.. or honeycomb… or more cocoa…. or milo…. or really anything that you think will add another 40bazillion calories.

Just remember Nesters that these are simply a sometimes food… Like sometimes you just neeeeeeeed them.

Happy cooking Nesters!

{Prizeapolooza} Need some sweetening up this Christmas?

Cakes by Katrina are not only wonderful to look at, they also back up their appearance with a delicious taste. Your tastebuds will dance once you try one of her cakes (I can personally attend to that!)

Prior to Katrina’s entry into the marketplace, Bathurst did not have a wide variety of cake suppliers who were actually able to deliver awesome handmade-hand-decorated cakes at a reasonable price!

All products are individually designed and tailored specifically to your needs – and the best bit…the absolute magnitude of flavour choices to choose from!

So whenever the need for cakes, cupcakes, biscuits or cake pops strikes (for example every Wednesday at 3.17pm in my office) Katrina is the person who should be on your speed dial!photo 1

{Christmas} Buying for the little men in your life..

The best description I have ever heard for little boys is to define them as: ‘noise with dirt on it’. Knowing the little men in my life that is a very, very accurate definition!

Having said that, there is nothing better than buying them some wonderful gifts for Christmas and watching their dirty-little-dimpled-chubby-cheeks light up.. even if it is only for a second before they have to run away again in search of a spiderman worm or something as equally delightful.

Here are some of our favourite picks for Christmas!boys christmas montageSeed Heritage – Patch Fedora $34.95

Country Road  – Lighthouse T-shirt – $29.95

Lime Tree Kids – Kit Pax Pirate Ship $44.95

{Prizeapolooza} Elin’s Emporium for all the little princesses in your life..

christmas photoshop small copy

It isn’t very often that you stumble upon someone you like straight away and I have to say from the moment I started speaking with Rebecca from Elin’s Emporium I felt that way.

elins logoNot only is she an extremely talented designer of all things perfect for the little birdies in your life but she is also extremely friendly and approachable.  Rebecca Baker2

Rebecca is responsible for creating handmade children’s dolls, softies, clothing & accessories that are all crafted from 100% high quality/designer cotton fabrics.

Starting from humble beginnings, she began sewing after the birth of her first daughter who was born with chronic eczema. Rebecca found that finding cotton clothing to fit her was tough! So, she began sewing gorgeous little clothes for her new little one.

Eventually, her family and friends realised how talented she was and encouraged her to begin her own line of children’s clothing and accessories. As a result Elin’s Emporium was created in December 2010.  dolls

The thing that sets Elin’s Emporium apart from the rest, is the quality of the items produced. All items are handmade personally by Rebecca. She has an eye for details and admits to being quite a perfectionist. She has a fairly simple motto which she follows strictly ‘If something isn’t perfect, I won’t sell it’.

Further, all of the fabrics she selects are high quality/designer fabrics, purchased both from her local quilting store and from other reputable sources online. She refuses to use cotton fabrics from chain stores and the like as their quality is lacking and they fade very quickly.
girl
All items are pre-washed in sensitive laundry detergent to clean and prevent colour run. She also uses double stitching and tumble dries the fabric to prevent shrinking, all for your convenience.

Rebecca is so aware of how important superior and safe products are. Her own children suffer from allergies so quality, health and safety are the cornerstone of the her business.

The gorgeous dolls that she creates are stuffed with corn fibre which hold a low flammability rating. Plus they are also hypo-allergenic and anti-bacterial.

The promise from Elin’s Emporium is that with every purchase you are guaranteed a high quality product which has been made locally, with love and attention to detail (plus it has the loving approval of her three beautiful daughters!)

I can personally attest to how beautiful Rebecca’s designs are as my toddler-bird owns one of her beautiful cotton dresses. It is an absolute favourite in my little princess’ wardrobe.

You can contact Elin’s Emporium as follows:

Email:  elinsemporium@gmail.com

Website:   www.madeit.com.au/ElinsEmporium
